Gimp Software

As a first time user of Gimp it could get frustrating at times. Not everything would work on the first click and sometimes you skipped a step in the process of creating something. For me I would go to YouTube and watch tutorials on how to use Gimp and create your own brand or even you own gif. Making sure your image is transparent is another thing I learned using Gimp. Gimp has many tools one could use to make whatever they working on easier. It is just figuring out how to use it is what is important. In the beginning I had no clue what tools to use or how to create your own image. After all the practice I have got I feel that I can create anything right away using it. These projects we did using Gimp I feel I have done more than once. Each one I would start over because I missed a step or feel that I learned something new in the process and would like to use it now to make it look better. You can learn many things from Gimp and the videos I watched on YouTube really helped me learn how to complete these projects and find new tools to use while creating these.

Infographic with Piktochart

Infographics (Safari)

I feel that this infographic does a good job of communicating complex data. It does a good job because it made it clear that they will present to you the top ten salaries at Google. It tells you these salaries range from $143,000 to $241,000 per year. The ten jobs are listed with the range of their salaries and are put into a pie chart. You can clearly see the ten job titles with their salary range. They do a good job color coordinating each job. They also tell you which jobs have two salaries. Those jobs being director and senior managers.

I think that to improve this visual design I would change the pie chart. I feel that all the salaries are clustered into it and confusion can come from it for many individuals looking at this infographic. The pie chart is color coordinated with the jobs but they should label each section of the pie chart. Maybe they could use a percentage on each section of the pie chart.

Google is such a big company and known all over. So I think the target audience could be anyone that just wants to know about Google and how much their top employers make. People will be curious to see the top paying jobs at Google.

I feel that this kind of video can work well with many careers. You can really see the authors graphic design ability in creating this video. The author has created this portfolio and has shown how many different designing jobs he can get with his ability to make this video portfolio. I really enjoyed the sound with this video portfolio.

Lower Thirds - CASL Branding for TV Station

Typography and University Branding (Safari)

As a College of Business student I feel that this brand visually fits what I know about the institution. It is being used by the College of Business. It helps identify us from other majors. The block M is sacred and when that is being shown and worn it is well known. The writing of "College of Business" is what then sets it a part from the rest of the University. I feel that a similar style of logo would fit for UM-Dearborn CASL. It is a nice style that gets straight to the point. You have your major written to the right to set you a part from other majors. The most important thing is to the left which will be the same for everyone. It shows the school you attend. When you attend Michigan you want it known. CASL could easily adapt this logo and use it which will then help them to better connect with students. The most important thing will be to not get rid of the "M" when making a brand or logo. So with this shirt it would identify them as a particular major and still recognize the University they are attending.

Animated Gifs

The gif I found is from a funny commercial. It is with Dikembe Mutombo a former basketball player that was a great shot blocker and was know for waving his finger after making a block. This gif is from the Geico commercial and shows Mutombo blocking a napkin from going into a trash can which was thrown by a worker. After he blocks the napkin you see him waving his finger at him.

Memes - the visual language of the web (Safari)

I found this meme on memegenerator.net. The author of this meme was not listed.
This meme is called the "not sure if troll" and it is of Fry a fictional character from Futurama. This meme shows fry squinting and just thinking to himself. This is a funny meme that some of us can relate to. Do we spend more time studying or trying to find a place to study? Many of us really try to find a good place to study so we can focus but sometimes we spend more time trying to find that place than actually studying. Fry has a lot of different memes that people make trying to troll different people.
